If you are going to hold court and pontificate regarding your accomplishments, perceived or factual, and tell of your future plans, you might want to consider the old adage above. If not, your plans and your idea of accomplishments might escape to a large segment of the public before you are ready to spring your surprise on the citizenry.

I  speak to the Mayor of Edgewood and his plan to place a person of his choice before the town council for the position of administrator for the Town of Edgewood. The plan is out AND it is to place someone presently on the town staff into the position of administrator.  The problem arises regarding the replacement for that individual’s present position. Although I know the name of the replacement favored by the mayor and I have respect for his or her abilities and dedication, they are overburdened in their present position and cannot serve in their present capacity and that of  a  full time administrator. If the mayor does not intend to find a full time replacement for the position presently held by his choice it will be a mistake of major proportions.

Consideration must be given to make sure that the employee being considered for the position of administrator is fully qualified under the existing job description for the position. If the individual is not fully qualified the appointment must be an interim appointment. The same applies to the replacement for the position vacated by the appointed administrator.

The negative newspaper articles that have appeared in the recent past along with gossip and talk on the street and inside business establishments indicates that many people are sick and tired of being sick and tired regarding the blanket of malaise which seems to be covering the town. It would be a shame if another mistake in judgment by the mayor results in additional lack of progress and loss of funds because no one acts responsibly to manage projects and to make sure the dollar bills do not fly out of our coffers and land back in Santa Fe.

Just to set the record straight, I believe any candidate for the administrator position should have to compete with others chosen from a list of applicants and fully vetted as anyone else should be. Let us learn from the past and strive not to repeat the mistakes and lack of progress shown in previous years. A new mistake repeated after an older mistake appears stupid rather than merely ignorant.
