At a recent meeting on February 22, 2009  sponsored by the Town of Edgewood, a staff member told this writer and others present that the town had no funds to build anything on Section 16. The reason given for the lack of money to construct on town land on Section 16 was that the town has a loan to help finish the waste water treatment plant and the lines connecting to the facility. Even if we take into account the close to 80 thousand dollars we pay in lease payments for the library and the building housing the police department, state police, chamber of commerce and a Santa Fe County satellite office we should have plenty of bonding capacity or loan capacity left to go forward with one or more projects.

Here’s why. Over the previous calendar year, Edgewood received $3,407,981.27 in gross receipts tax proceeds. During the first six months of the current fiscal year, Edgewood received $1,741,254.72.

So, even though, the mayor continues to shuttle scuttle all projects on Section 16, it looks like we can still find time and money for baloney.

Note to mayor and council: Get a good manager/administrator and use your contract financial adviser. Now is an excellent time to construct (if you really want to).

See you in the funny papers, Mayor.
