Choice

Wealth, power, popularity, and sensual gratification (WPPSG) pretty much describe what this world is all about. How we as individuals, families, businesses and as a nation measure up depends in large part the value we place on them.
Wealth, power, popularity, and sensual gratification can in themselves become a morality of sorts. We can find extreme examples of people who literally worship and devote their entire lives to acquiring one or more of these things. Some seek wealth, and power and movie tars sell their souls for popularity. Others devote their lives to sensual gratification, dying from drug overdoses, or contracting an incurable disease through seeking sexual gratification. In politics, popularity, and power can be had in almost unlimited amounts, but add sex, lies and ill gotten gains and a lifetime of public service is over, and justly so.

It is said, and taken seriously, that “Once a Marine; always a Marine!” Since I served in the United State Marine Corps from 1957 through 1961, I will keep the title in the future, as I have in the past.
My service was before Vietnam and therefore I did not play a combat role during my service. But, I’m the kind of sentimental jerk, as some might observe, that seriously tears-up when I hear the National Anthem and the Marine Corps Hymn or, when I read or hear the story of a veteran of combat service during the time of The Greatest Generation … or, anytime. I guess that is why stories about veterans who are hasseled for no good reason inflames my soul against those who would subject our veterans or our servicemen and servicewomen to petty processes that serve no good purpose.

Stimulus – Torrance County Did It Right!

In their May 20th edition, The Independent reported on a meeting that Governor Richardson had the previous Friday with community leaders from the Estancia Valley regarding stimulus funds. According to the article, the meeting was cordial and Mr. Richardson emphasized forwarding requests for projects to be funded directly to Ex-Governor Anaya. The previous chief executive is directing the stimulus program here in New Mexico.
Torrance County was well-represented, and it seems they will be getting everything they’ve asked for. Edgewood, Tijeras, and Mountainair, on the other hand, had no one in attendance at the meeting, thus there was no direct contact with Governor Richardson on behalf of those communities.
With regard to Edgewood. I am aware that the town has previously prepared a packet of “projects” it urgently needs. While this packet was previously presented to state legislators as “capital outlay projects”, I would hope that the requests would be now routed to Governor. Anaya in a timely manner for his disposition. I am assuming, of course, that Edgewood does want these projects funded under the “stimulus” program? If not, why not?
My concern regarding timely requests for stimulous funding has increased due to an article in the The Santa Fe New Mexican of May 25th (see Anaya’s Stimulus Dole). While the writer seems to dwell mainly on projects from Northern New Mexico and the town of Espanola already being turned down, I am concerned that Edgewood may not be allocated its fair share of funding if the town does not move quickly. From the “Independent” article cited above we do know that Torrance County is already moving forward. What about Edgewood, Mountainair, and Tijeras?
Pelosi Travels – Avoids U.S. Press?

Drudge Report has just posted a report that our beloved House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, suddenly turned up in Shanghai on Sunday to attend a conference on energy matters. Also attending is Senator John F Kerry. It is interesting to note that there had been no advanced notice given of her participating in the conference and she apparently decided to go at the last minute.
Since most weekends, she has an Air Force jet fly her to San Francisco to spend time at her home, the trip makes sense. Flying from D.C. to San Francisco she is already well on her way to China and she does have a background in Chinese affairs, specifically, criticizing their human relations record. I really don’t know how this qualifies her to attend a conference on energy* but, She is the Speaker, and she does not lie! I do regret though, in China, she will at most, have limited access to our press and won’t be able to effectively repel attacks from the right wingers and CIA bureaucrats. I can’t believe that these hard-hearted people are now in their third week of persecuting this fine lady. When will it end? The next thing you know she’ll probably even be accused of going to China just to avoid the U.S. Press! Oh,the shame of it all! Can’t we all just get along?.
Since she is now becoming interested in “Energy” I wouldn’t be surprised if she starts flying commercial on her weekend trips. She is so considerate when things are pointed out to her. Please go to Contact Nancy Pelosi and leave her a message of encouragement. Tell her what you think about the fantastic job she is doing.

A Political Litmus Test

The Litmus Test is simple; in our form of government unique in the world we are the Masters, they who represent us the Servants. The test is this, simply; ask how it can be that:
* The Servant orders that the Master be disarmed
* The Servant imprisons the master if they lie (to congress), but if they lie to us what?
* They pass laws that we the Masters must obey, but they the Servants are exempt from.
* They tell us what their salary will be, never even thinking we the Masters should have a say in it.
* We have Freedom of Speech providing our Servants determine that it is “Fair”.
* Many of our Servants send their children to private schools, but will not allow those whom they are the servants of the same opportunity, thus condemning millions of children to generation poverty.
Examples are many, but what stunned me the other day, on hearing of our 2nd Amendment Rights being restored, that will allow you and I to carry a weapon on our collective property (National Parks) a comment was made by one of our Servants “well we will just see how this goes, we may decide not to allow it”.
I don’t believe that this is what Washington, Franklin, Jefferson, Mason and Madison had in mind when they decided to help create a form of government that would make us the freest people on earth.

Chin Up, Nancy — Encouragement #2

Inherent with our rights as free citizens of this Republic, are some certain implied obligations. Among these are supporting the constitution, exercising the right to vote, and maintaining contact with our elected representatives to insure, they are always aware of the needs and desires of those who sent them to our nation’s capitol.
In view of the above, as well as the “unscrupulous” attacks being directed at Ms. Pelosi from a large number of talk show hosts (Where is the “fairness” doctrine now that we need it?) and even members of her own party, this “anti-Nancy activity” borders on character assassination. This “right wing” campaign has been going on now for over two weeks. Just when is it going to stop? Sensing the malicious nature of those behind the assaults on this gracious lady, On May 17th, I wrote an article for this blog( Support Nancy Pelosi) to draw attention to her plight. I also requested that our readers join me and contact her website( Contact Nancy Pelosi) and leave a message of encouragement for this valiant lady. I’ve spoken to many friends who have done so and I wish to thank them for taking the time to express their feelings of gratitude to the Speaker for the work she has done.
I had hoped that by now the ferocious assaults would have subsided. Unfortunately, the media war against Ms. Pelosi seems to go on and on. The denizens of “Fox News”, the “Drudge Report”, and the “Washington Times” just will not leave this poor lady in peace. I believe that it is time for further action and ask our readers to go once again to Contact Nancy Pelosi and join me in telling her what you think of how she is serving her country. I know she will appreciate your comments!
