Well, because the numbers for everything were so overwhelming and the details so detailed, that it has taken some time to wrap everything together. We can say right off the bat that this year’s Valley View Christian Church’s (VVCC) father’s day sixth annual car show was successful beyond anyone’s dreams.
To begin, those on the committee started meetings to plan for the show about three months prior to the show. Sponsors, supplies, prizes, donations and special equipment had to be

procured in order to be prepared ahead of the event date. The committee was headed by Tony and Audrey Jaramillo (they have done so since the show’s inception) and the other members consisted of volunteers from VVCC. Each year, proceeds from the show go to an Edgewood area charitable organization. What makes this show and the funds raised unique is that there are no entrance fees, no admittance fees and no fees for food and drink. The funds raised are proceeds from the silent auction and donations.
This year, at best count, between 2500 and 3000 visitors and entrants were able to enjoy 220 free breakfast burritos, 2200 free hot dogs, chips, brownies, assorted cookies, water and soda; all served by eager and smiling volunteers from VVCC. In addition free games for the young ones, along with free music from great bands helped to round out the events. Most important and the driving force behind the success of the show was the great number of cars and other motor vehicles entered. A total of 210 official entries were arrayed over the grounds of VVCC, making 2009′s show the most successful to date.
This year there were over 140 prizes and awards for entrants and two special memorial awards for John Wirsenski and Larry Jaramillo, both vicitims of motor vehicle accidents. The winner of the memorial trophy represented by Larry Jaramillo (Tim Meeks) presented the trophy back to Larry’s mother, Ms. Josie Jaramillo.
This year’s charity beneficiary is Walkin’ N Circles Ranch, Inc. This organization received $3222 which will help to continue their very worthwhile endeavors. Please visit their website by clicking on their name and consider becoming a member and/or a contributor.
There were many great sponsors, with two of particular note being Ron Richard of Sears in Edgewood and Joe Maggi of San Pedro Rock, north of Edgewood. Because of the great sponsors, participants, attendees and volunteers the show next year will likely be even larger. Everyone from VVCC wishes to thank every guest and desires your presense at next year’s father’s day car show. God Bless each of you!
