My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

By Bob Steiner

Having grown up in the American West during the nineteen forties and fifties, I had been raised under a system  of government, which I was taught  was based on  Judeo-Christian principles.  As I progressed over the years through public school and college studies this belief  was reinforced when I read such documents as The Mayflower Compact (the first known set of written laws and covenants to govern the new world), The Declaration of Independence, and The U.S. Constitution. All three of these documents point towards a recognition of a special relationship between our government and GOD.

Looking back over the years, it now seems we were rather naive then. In those days even the most minor infraction of the norms of  the society was enough to shatter one’s reputation.  Divorce was accepted but not spoken about. An illicit love affair in the community might have been whispered about, but would never have been discussed in the press. Even a philandering U.S. President or two got by with out having his personal affairs publicized.   A drunken driving  arrest might have taken place, but no one talked about it in the public venue.  In short, man’s failings happened but the news media and society interested in promoting  the positive aspects of our lifestyle, tended to play down  all but the most flagrant violations of the status quo.  Life for most people was good and  society benefited.

I grew up believing that my heroes have always been cowboys , firemen, policemen, soldiers, or doctors.  John Wayne, Roy Rogers and Gene Autry seemed to be the prime role models for our lives .   It may seem hard to imagine,  but these were Hollywood stars who lived their lives without ever becoming involved in any of the scandalous conduct that we read about daily in today’s movie and music industry.

Drugs were not a problem. I can remember one instance when just a rumor of an actor smoking a Marijuana cigarette caused him to be replaced in a movie he had been cast for. While Homosexuality may have existed in those days, it certainly was not publicized.  If anyone would have used the word “pedophile”,  people would have thought that some sort of  bicycle enthusiast was being discussed.  You might say that we were very out of touch and  naive in those days.

Now, moving ahead some fifty years, we have become completely liberated.  Sex seems to be the most  used “noun” in today’s media.  Few actors, music stars, or sports figures  have not spent time in drug rehabilitation centers and you can hear detailed reports of their excesses on the news every night.

Now, after four weeks of having my TV tell me how great a recently deceased singer was, despite the fact that he was known  to have young boys as bed partners and was a heavy drug abuser, I am really confused.  I find it very difficult to view a drug-using sexual degenerate as someone who has earned the respect and veneration being accorded to him.

Yes I guess my heroes have always been (and will continue to be) Cowboys, policemen. fire men. soldiers ( who have led  clean lives and are a credit and role models to our civilization). I hope there are still a few others around who share my sentiments.

Sarah Palin, A Liberal’s Worst Nightmare!

By Bob Steiner

As one who finds himself  daily reading political articles or watching the “Doom and Gloom” cadre of professional political “strategists” on the likes of CNN. MSNBC, ABC, as well as FOX News (in a few instances), I am totally dumbfounded by the amount of press coverage that Ms. Palin has received since Senator McCain and she lost the election last November.

Any logical person would think that , having been voted in, our liberal friends would now be in an elated state of euphoria, and they would be celebrating their success and the “achievements” they have made on behalf of the American People.  Their stabilizing our financial markets, nationalizing parts of the automotive industry, and perhaps, implementing a new “improved” national health plan are efforts totally in line with the programs of their communist socialist icons, Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin. For some reason though, they seem to be bothered by the actions of a provincial governor from a “backward state.” Then on July 25th, Ms. Palin chose to resign her office.  While she cited the usual political grounds (“I want to spend more time with my family”) for her decision, there may be other reasons for her action.  For example, Alaska  will have a vacant U.S. Senate seat in 2010 which she could run for.  In that position she could strengthen her Washington  base. Following this there will be another Presidential election in 2012 where she could run as the candidate for the number one or two slot.  Her Options are really open.

Since the last election the liberal attack teams of the media seem to continually harp on her “lack of experience.”  How soon they forget! It seems to me that it was just a year ago that the liberal press was touting the accomplishments of our President.  Specifically, he had worked as a Communitry Organizer for an  affiliate of “ACORN” and had also been a member of the U.S. Senate for more than 150 days. These do not appear to be stellar qualifications that I, personally, would want to put on a resume being submitted for a “Chief Executive Position”, such as President. I guess his strongest personal asset is his oratory skill  (providing his teleprompter doesn’t fall over).

Ms. Palin, on the other hand, has had several years experience as a Chief executive, first as a town mayor and then as Governor of Alaska for the last two and one-half years.  It should also be noted that even after she announced she was resigning, as governor, she had a job approval rating of 54%.  She, too, is a gifted orator and has been filling her political war chest with sizable contributions from many sources.  She has not only committed to assisting conservative candidates of her own party in the next election but also to work for like-minded  conservative candidates who are not members of her party.

After all the hoop-la being  raised in the media about this “not qualified losing candidate” ,  one could almost surmise that the liberal power brokers, as well as a few “sexist” members of her own party,  are scared to death of this gifted politician.  In the months to come, I  expect to see even more vicious attacks against her and I am looking forward to her active participation in the 2010 election.

Santa Fe County Acts Further For Renewable Energy

By Chuck Ring (GadaboutBlogalot ©2009)

Quote Freely From The Article – Leave The Pseudonym Alone

Those of you who have read this blog on a regular basis have seen information regarding special legislation for renewable energy financing having been passed during the last legislative session. Basically, the senate bill allows for counties and municipalities to set up financing schemes for solar and other renewable energy projects for residences; while the house bill only allows counties to set up a financing option for solar only. Here is the final Senate Bill NM-SB0647 and here is the final House Bill HB0572

The County of Santa Fe has posted preliminary information on their website and passed two resolutions at their meeting on July 28, 2009. The resolutions can be accessed here and here. Following the links will take you to Santa Fe County Resolutions 2009-126 and 2009-127 which were filed in the Santa Fe County Clerk’s office on July 29, 2009.

An aide to the Santa Fe County Commission advised that she was informed that if all goes well, the program may be ready to go in forty-five (45) days.

You can sign up here for updates or to be considered for the program … or both.
