Our former first lady and present Secretary of State has what some might call an affinity for bomb stories. The last bombing (before now) that she reported being a part of was in Bosnia. Once the dust settled from that bomb attack , she admitted that she was the victim of mis-speak.

Now, it seems she may again have been a victim of mangled memory when she was in Belfast last week to prod some of their politicians to action. This time, she related her experience in staying at the Europa Hotel during a 1990′s trip.  That would be fine taken alone, but she added she and President Clinton, stayed in spite of the hotel still showing damage from a bomb attack.  According to an article from TimesOnline here is a portion of her remarks and explanatory narrative by the reporter:

However, the last Provisional IRA bomb to damage the Europa was detonated in 1993, two years before President Clinton and his wife checked in for the night.

The last time the Europa underwent renovations because of bomb blast damage was in January 1994, 22 months before the presidential entourage booked 110 rooms at the hotel.

Mrs Clinton told assembled politicians at Stormont: “When Bill and I first came to Belfast we stayed at the Europa Hotel … even though then there were sections boarded up because of damage from bombs.”

There is more to be found in the article which can be accessed here.  Perhaps the stress of travel and diplomacy has squeezed into her synapse process and crossed a wire or two. In any case there will be a round of explanations from her aides or the Secretary of State..
