The other day we wrote about Deep-Freeze Jefferson (see here) and his conviction and sentencing to prison. We promised there would be a story from the Republican side since we are no fan of corruption … no matter the party or individual.

It seem a group of powerful Pennsylvania Republicans are accused of  immersing their activities under a pile of dollars (twenty million) so the story goes.

According to timesleader.com in a story on November 13, ten people (all Republican) were indicted by a Pennsylvania grand jury.  According to Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett:

HARRISBURG — A former House speaker, an ex-lawmaker and eight aides Thursday became the latest — and the first Republicans — to be charged in a three-year-old investigation into the diversion of public resources and employees to legislative campaigns.

Attorney General Tom Corbett (Republican) said that individuals within the House GOP caucus spent millions of taxpayer dollars on computer technology to gain an upper hand in campaigns, and that investigators can prove that some high-ranking officials and their employees tried to cover up their part.

Corbett has said that the most powerful of the individuals, State Representative John Perzel, Republican from Philadelphia is “aggressive  in the acquisition and retention of power.” Perzel has been accused of using a variety of “dirty tricks” to tarnish other Republicans who did not vote as Perzel wished.

Perzel has stated he is innocent and blames politics for the indictments:

“It smacks of political opportunism at the expense of my reputation, and I am going to fight very aggressively to prove my innocence,” Perzel said.
