There are some things from which vegetarians must be protected.  The following link represents forty of those things.  I’m not sure, given the potential carbon footprint which could be left from masticating these “food groups” that I am doing anything close to a good thing by posting the link, but I can’t always be my brother’s keeper.

So, here is the link.

I didn’t know that carbon footprints were measured in “swimming pools,” but apparently any container will do.  This method of measuring was made known by CBS in a story and video filed by them yesterday (1/11/10).  Actually, the story was more about congressional waste and no results than it was about carbon footprint. The story deals with the waste of money and resources expended by members of congress and their staffers to get to Copenhagen and back and their maintenance and upkeep while there.

Little to nothing was reported regarding the hours wasted in a foreign country and on travel when there was plenty of productive work that could have been stabbed at in their normal posh digs.  Readers may say, as others say in the story, that it was important for the U.S. government to make an appearance and participate, but it isn’t clear that any, much less all, of the congress members appeared in a serious fashion, or that they participated in the conference in any meaningful way.

I’m not sure how CBS calculated that the carbon footprint left in Denmark by the congressional entourage would fill 10,000 swimming pools, but it is their report and I can’t refute or support it. They must have left something there as they certainly didn’t come back with a deal. At the very least, the Little Mermaid probably has a cinder or two in her eyes.

Here’s the story and the video.  CBS promises more as details are filed by the travelin’ men and women of Congress. Thanks for the information CBS.
