Forty Percent Of Rain Forest Endangered By Global Warming — Not So Much Bucky

More egg on the face of  the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as they scramble to cover for yet another report.  This time they’ve apparently removed information provided by an unrelated report and inserted it firmly in their 2007 report.  The same report that has suffered from other revelations in the recent past.

We know that the IPCC has been touted as the be- all-end-all of authoritative proof  for the anthropogenic reasons for global warming and climate change.  We also know by now that the IPCC is suffering a loss of reputation from repeated snafus where they’ve been involved during the last two months. Fox News Online on their Science and Technology pages is reporting that:

In the Fourth Assessment Report (AR4), issued in 2007 by the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), scientists wrote that 40 percent of the Amazon rainforest in South America was endangered by global warming.

The Fox piece continues to relate how the information was taken from a piece that actually had nothing to do with climate change/global warming:

But it has now been revealed that the claim was based on a WWF study titled “Global Review of Forest Fires,” a paper barely related to the Amazon rainforest that was written “to secure essential policy reform at national and international level to provide a legislative and economic base for controlling harmful anthropogenic forest fires.

The story reveals how one individual with the IPCC  was so bold as to suggest that the recent revelations might actually help the reputation of the organization.  The spokesperson for the IPCC tries to connect the various “scandals” the fact that “mistakes are human,” further commenting that the IPCC is a human organization.  We submit that such reasoning falls in line with the type of thinking that got the IPCC in trouble originally.

Perhaps, one day this will die down and we will finally be able to believe information that is doled out to us.  In the meantime fill yourself up with the latest by clicking here.
