Edgewood Library Announces Grant From WalMart

Don't Waste It

POSTED AS A COMMUNITY SERVICE BY GADABOUT-BLOGALOT

The Edgewood Community Library is proud to announce that we are the recipient of a $1,000 WalMart Community Grant!  Funds from this grant will be used to establish a Young Adult Book Club and to provide paperback books to its participants at the Edgewood Community Library.  This free program is open exclusively to teens residing in the East Mountain Area who may be interested in young adult contemporary literature.  The Young Adult Book Club will meet every Tuesday evening from 6:00pm to 7:00pm throughout the school year.  Registration will be held for each new session (new book) and limited to the first fifteen participants.  Guided open discussion, concerning the assigned reading, will occur each meeting to encourage critical thinking and analysis on a mature level.  We are in the process of collaborating with the Moriarty High School English Department in offering this program as an extra credit opportunity for students.

Here is a succinct breakdown of the program details:

  • Program will start in September 2010
  • Books will be chosen from contemporary Young Adult Literature
  • Book Club will meet 4 times a month on Tuesdays 6-7pm during the school year
  • FREE for all participants
  • Open to teens only
  • Limited to 15 max
  • Registration will be held for each new session (new book)
  • Guided open discussion will occur each meeting to encourage mature critical thinking and analysis

I am really excited about starting this program because there are very few educational programs dedicated to young adults in the community outside of the classroom!
