SCAM: Guadalupe Credit Union Text Scam

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Unknown

PREVENTION: Do not respond to texts claiming to be from Guadalupe Credit Union.

OVERVIEW: Santa Fe’s Guadalupe Credit Union reports two similar texts are now circulating in New Mexico alleging to be from Guadalupe Credit Union.

Tuesday’s text from pmomail@pmomail.net alerts the recipient that their account is limited and will be closed. They are instructed to call 770-755-5067.  Once the number is called, an automated recording requests the 16 digit account code, expiration date, and PIN number. One member gave the requested information to the automated system and lost $1,200 to the scam.

Wednesday’s text from guadalupe@vtext.com contains a call back number of 802-239-4691.   Today’s text states Alert: Guadalupe C.U. Card Limited.  Please call 802-239-4691. This number has been taken over by the Federal Trade Commission.

Both texts are fraudulent.  Guadalupe Credit Union asks their credit union members to report receipt of this type of text message to 505-982-8942.   Anyone receiving the text who is not a member of Guadalupe Credit Union should report to it their financial institution.
