The third day of exposure for the Pigford mess of a promised five to seven days.  How long will it actually last?  As long as there are crooked politicians, scam-artist citizens and we Americans who do not care that the crooks are laughing and thumbing their noses at us … without consequence.

Ralphie not Alfie, but what are the 111 exemptions from health care enrollment under ObamaCare all about.  To start with there are unions, large firms and others who have garnered exemptions and if business proceeds as usual when folks have big lawyers or have made contributions to the party in power before, during or after the bill  passed this probably won’t be the last of the exemptions or delays.

I’d urge all interested people and groups to pay attention as things zing along to see where it goes from here.  There is more than a little information at the United States Health and Human Services web site which deals with the muck and mire involved in this large, thick and hard to understand piece of law. Here it is … click.

What is it all about?  I didn’t know when it first passed and I don’t know now, but here’s a video that might help you understand … another click.

On October 24, 2010 we posted an article (see here) regarding POTUS and FLOTUS and their entourage’s travel to India.  The article attributed a newspaper source and their publication of the story.  We have to say that since we published our article the story has spouted wings and has become what we would consider a global legend/huge bowl of bull butter.  At least in-so-far as the incredible sky-high amount for dollars spent, numbers in the entourage, numbers of ships and other equipment, and probably the kilometer long tunnel allegedly constructed in order that Potus, etc. could visit the Gandhi museum.

While  we published an article based on an unknown source, in that his title was given, but his name was not, we believe the information to have been close to correct as to cost, entourage, hotel rooms and equipment.  Nonetheless, we should have looked for more information which named sources.

We now provide a source of refutation on the stories being reported in the last 3-4 days.  FactCheck.org is trusted and they name their sources; therefore check out their information, both printed and audio, at the links found below:

Wow!  Tell us it is untrue or a conspiracy of lies from Republicans.  The following should be required reading for those who fail to understand the true cost of so-called governance.  While millions of ordinary citizens in the United States are trying to hold on to the few disposable dollars they might have, we have top-level government officials galloping with the gold outside the United States.  Read it and weep and if you don’t weep, I’m not sure you are giving this story due consideration.  According to an article in The Economist – India Times:

US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle will be extremely busy in Mumbai, upon landing on November 6 for a two-day India visit. As the world’s most powerful man and his wife zip around the city visiting the 26/11 memorial on Marine Drive, the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), Mani Bhawan and other locations in south Mumbai, the security obviously will be water-tight .

Water-tight, well maybe, but the cash belonging to the crazy citizens of the United States is sure  going to flow.  Ridiculously and outrageously, we believe, because there seems  no semblance of good old American common-sense for anything like this to happen during these  terrible economic times.  It will help India at a time when they need little help from this administration … even if we could find anything in our pocket books besides space.  Look at more of this story, but don’t faint at the money being thrown away:

To ensure fool-proof security, the President’s team has booked the entire the (sic) Taj Mahal Hotel, including 570 rooms, all banquets and restaurants. Since his security contingent and staff will comprise a huge number, 125 rooms at Taj President have also been booked, apart from 80 to 90 rooms each in Grand Hyatt and The Oberoi hotels. The NCPA, where the President is expected to meet representatives from the business community, has also been entirely booked. (emphasis, all mine)
The officer said, “Obama’s contingent is huge. There are two jumbo jets coming along with Air Force One, which will be flanked by security jets. There will be 30 to 40 secret service agents, who will arrive before him. The President’s convoy has 45 cars, including the Lincoln Continental in which the President travels.” (emphasis, again mine)

Since Obama will stay in a hotel that is on sea front, elaborate coastal security arrangements have been made by the US Navy in consonance with the Indian Navy and the Coast Guard. “There will be US naval ships, along with Indian vessels , patrolling the sea till about 330-km from the shore. This is to negate the possibility of a missile being fired from a distance,” the officer said.

The President will be accompanied by his chefs, not because he would not like to savour Indian cuisine, but to ensure his food is not spiked.

I don’t suppose, Mr. Obama and his spouse could have planned a virtual trip to India, where they could travel by laptops, and the cost could be met with a couple of ten spots.  This small sojourn is completely out of sight, in so many ways,  in this time.

Oh, if you might wonder, I feel the same should apply for past presidents who travel with an entourage of Secret Service personnel and our Congress members and their staff who waste our money on their magic carpets to far distant lands.  Stay home and tend to business … really tend to business.

If you aren’t sick now, perhaps the rest of the story will lead you to the slop jar.  Maybe, India will float a loan to us to pay for the trip.  Any chance this waste might have an impact on the general election, or is the question inappropriate?

Outside Spending, It’s 200 Million

The Sunlight Foundation, a watchdog reporting group (more here) reports that spending  for political campaigns has reached the 200 million dollar mark.  The article by Anupama Narayanswamy starts with:
Spending by outside groups trying to influence the mid-term elections increased by a staggering $78 million in the last week, pushing the total spent by non-profits, labor unions and party committees to more than $200 million this cycle. That’s an 80 percent increase from 2006, the last mid-term election.
“Super PACs”–groups that register with the FEC their intention to raise unlimited funds and run independent expenditure ads–have spent a total of $21.4 million so far.
It appears the report tags no favorites and labor unions, both political parties and other big fund-raiser are given equal treatment in the story.

It appears that both major political parties, labor unions and other big dough raisers  are equals when it comes to the overall reporting and no one is left out as sacred (at least among the big elephants, donkeys and labor progressives):
In the last four days alone the top five spending organizations disclosed spending $13.8 million and includes a spike in spending by two of the party committees (the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee). American Crossroads, Crossroads GPS–both of which are advised by Republican strategist Karl Rove–and the National Association of Realtors round out the top five.
A group who has been braying a lot in the last week or so leads the spending increase for the past week.  Perhaps they are hoofing it in a hurry to combat the spending by the Republicans:
The DCCC has upped it’s spending considerably (sic) than previous weeks and has spent more than $6.3 million over the last four days, mostly on opposition ads. Crossroads GPS, a 501(c)4 group that doesn’t disclose its donors, spent $2.4 million mostly on close Senate races.
There’s very little more in the story, but here’s the link if you wish to access it and plunk around where you’ll find more stories.

First Round To ObamaCare

A Federal Judge in Michigan has ruled in favor of the administration’s health care act, AKA ObamaCare.  According to an article in the Detroit Free Press by David Ashenfelter and Patricia Anstett the judge:
… upheld key provisions of President Barack Obama’s landmark health reform law.
In a 20-page decision, U.S. District Judge George Steeh refused to issue an injunction to halt preparations for putting federal health reforms into full effect in 2014, a law known as the Affordable Care Act passed by Congress in March. Steeh also dismissed the major points of the suit — requiring Americans to buy health insurance and penalizing those who don’t starting in 2014.
This judge is the first one to rule that the administration and congress did not overstep their constitutional authority in passing the legislation, as least to the points addressed in this particular lawsuit.  There are other suits waiting for their opposition to the ObamaCare challenges to wend their way to the  court or courts of jurisdiction:
Nation-wide, several dozen lawsuits have been filed to stop the reforms. Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox and 19 other state attorney generals brought one of the challenges, which is set for oral arguments in Florida Dec. 16, according to Cox spokeswoman Joy Yearout.
The attorney generals’ suit argues that the federal government can’t force people to buy a product merely because they are U.S. citizens. But federal attorneys say Congress can regulate interstate commerce and has imposed laws for more than 200 years requiring men to buy muskets and ammunition, for example.
No doubt, the last decisions in all the cases will be a long-time coming and will outlive some of the folks who might otherwise fall under the requirements of ObamaCare.  You can read the rest of the story at this link.  Don’t forget to read the other provided links at the bottom of the page.

Medicare — Hold It There, Maybe Not, Old People

The Wall Street Journal/Opinion Journal has a troubling article by Peter Ferrara and Larry Hunter.  It is about ObamaCare and what it will do to Medicare unless something is done to change POTUS’s and Congress’ creation.  I’m concerned because I am one of those old downhill types and I’m not talking about skiing down a steep slope, although the peril might be very much the same.  The article starts with:

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has attacked Senate Republican candidates for wanting “to end Medicare as we know it.” And in Nevada’s hotly contested Senate race, Majority Leader Harry Reid is attacking Republican Sharron Angle, saying she wants to “gut” Medicare. But Mr. Reid has already gutted it. He and his colleagues did so by passing ObamaCare.

I’m not going to insist that I’m entitled to Medicare (I’m not) but since I have it, I wouldn’t mind keeping it for whatever years more than 70 (my present age) might be allowed me.  Medicare, or not, I don’t like being lied to and that is exactly how Medicare under ObamaCare feels at this point.  Let’s go a little further:

In his analysis accompanying the recently released Annual Report of the Medicare Board of Trustees, Richard Foster, Medicare’s chief actuary, noted that Medicare payment rates for doctors and hospitals serving seniors will be cut by 30% over the next three years.

Then Mr. Foster goes on to say that by the end of the 75-year projection period in the Annual Medicare Trustees Report, Medicare payment rates will be one-third of what will be paid by private insurance, and only half of what is paid by Medicaid. But, you’ve not seen anything until you read this next bit of news:

Altogether, ObamaCare cuts $818 billion from Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) from 2014-2023, the first 10 years of its full implementation, and $3.2 trillion over the first 20 years, 2014-2033. Adding in ObamaCare cuts for Medicare Part B (physicians fees and other services) brings the total cut to $1.05 trillion over the first 10 years and $4.95 trillion over the first 20 years.

I’ll bet President Johnson never envisioned that a fellow Democrat, well Progressive, would turn Medicare bottom-up and do so in a rapid-fire manner.  There is more:

There will be added cuts under ObamaCare to Medicare Advantage, the private option to Medicare that close to one-fourth of all seniors have chosen for their coverage under the program because it gives them a better deal. Mr. Foster estimates that 50% of all seniors with Medicare Advantage will lose their plan because of these cuts. Mr. Obama’s pledge that “If you like your health plan, you will be able to keep it” clearly does not apply to America’s seniors.

I don’t have one yet, but if ObamaCare doesn’t quit taking my breath away, I will need an oxygen bottle … a big one.  There’s more bad news in the rest of the article and I’m sure more to come ad infinitum, or as a famous poet has said:

…  So, naturalists observe, a flea Has smaller fleas that on him prey; And these have smaller still to bite ‘em, And so proceed ad infinitum. …

Jonathan Swit … On Poetry: A Rhapsody

“Bite ‘em,” ” bite us,”  ObamaCare will be the end for us.  Read more from the article, right here and you’ll learn more startling news regarding your Medicare.  Don’t forget to chase the links shown below.

Some “Small” Nips At The Reality Of Obamacare

By Chuck Ring (GadaboutBlogalot ©2009 – 2010)

Quote Freely From The Article – Leave The Pseudonym Alone

It looks like more can be revealed by the President now that the democrats and others voting for Obamacare have had time to talk and squawk about the great things the bill will do.  Or, is that not quite factual and maybe running to a lot of maybe, if that.

The above and more  according to My Way News in a story presented by Erika Werner and Calvin Woodard.  The reporters begin their piece by a recap of what the President had promised as he rolled out the idea of  Obamacare and what has happened since to cause him to, “hem and haw,” as the authors say:

So far, the law he signed earlier this year hasn’t had the desired effect. An analysis from Medicare’s Office of the Actuary this week said that the nation’s health care tab will go up – not down – through 2019 as a result of Obama’s sweeping law, though the increase is modest.

Obama offered some caveats when asked in his news conference Friday about the apparent discrepancy between what he promised and what’s actually happening so far. On several other topics, too, his rhetoric fell short of a full accounting.

This piece, along with similar stories, is an account of what public officials say they have done with the writers adjusting for facts and “windage.”   In this particular story, it seems that none of POTUS’s accounts of what has happened since his favorite health care bill was passed, never quite tallies or measures up with what the writers report.

You can see for yourself as you read the article.  It might make you say something like, “We told you so.”   Somewhat, anyway.
