Edgewood Food Pantry, Civitan Clothing Distribution & Circus

POSTED AS A COMMUNITY SERVICE BY GADABOUT-BLOGALOT

The circus is coming! The circus is coming!  The Culpepper Merriweather  circus is coming to Edgewood April 12th.  There will be two shows-5:00 and 7:30

.

*******ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TO FUND THE EDGEWOOD MOBILE FOOD PANTRY.*******

Bring your family out for a fun-filled night and help support the food pantry.

Tickets are $9 for adults and $6 for kids if bought prior to the day of the circus.

I’ve attached a flier with all the pre-sale ticket locations.

There are sponsorships available to anyone wanting to sponsor this HUGE event!  $50 will get your business advertised to 1,000 circus goers. E-mail us or call Robin or Renee at 286-8100.  All money and stuffers due no later than April 1st.

Once again, Roadrunner Food Bank is providing the food and we will distribute it on March 24th from 5:00-7:00 pm to anyone needing help.  I’ve attached the flier.  If you know of anyone that might benefit from this program, please let them know.  I’m also asking for help passing the flier out or distributing it to businesses or churches.  I won’t be able to hit every church or business and I know they will be a valuable resource in reaching families that can benefit from the pantry. This month, we will have enough food to feed 150 families.

A little bit about the program:
We are paying a shared maintenance fee of $.05 a pound for the food.
$125 will buy 2500 pounds of food, allowing 50 families to receive 50 pounds of food each.
There are no income restraints-anyone needing the food is welcome.
All donations will go back into buying food from Roadrunner Food Bank.

At the bottom of the e-mail, there is a link to a video Roadrunner made about the necessity of mobile food pantries.

Results from last month:

117 families were served.

There were 405 people in those 117 households.

Thank you to our sponsors- Valley View Church.

We also had 40+ volunteers-the pantry wouldn’t have been successful without their help.

Valley View Church has once again offered their space for the event. The Edgewood Civitan and various families are sponsoring the pantry this month.  Thank you, sponsors!

In the twenty-one months this pantry has been operational, 9,716 people in 2,737 households have been recipients of food from Roadrunner. Thank you for all of your support, we couldn’t operate without help and donations from others.

New this month:

Like us on Facebook!  We will post closings and interesting info about the pantry there!

If anyone is interested in helping by either volunteering their time or sponsoring the event, please contact me. We ask that volunteers be to Valley View by 3:30 and stay until the pantry is finished, normally about 7:30.  My phone number is 281-5364.

Last, but not least, the following link is to a video from Roadrunner.  It’s a great video and some of our clients are featured.

Some of you in the Estancia Valley Community know the Civitan Club has distributed clothing to folks needing assistance over the last year or so.  They have come to a point where the success of the program has found them without clothing enough to serve those needing clothes.  They have made the following request to those in the area willing to help:

Our clothing exchange is a wonderful success.  People have come to expect our presence each month.  Because of our popularity we have run out of certain kinds of clothing.

Men’s clothing – All sizes

kids clothing – All sizes

Baby clothes - All sizes

Please take some time and clean out the closet and bring your clothing to our next meeting on Jan 19th.  We sure could use the clothes.  They go a long way in help those in need, right here in our community.

If you can’t make it to the next meeting but would like to contribute clothing, please contact me or Dale Wells at the below email and we will schedule a pick-up/drop off.

Pay It Forward,

Joell Ackerman

It should be mentioned that there is a drop-off at Rich Ford in Edgewood for those contributors who wish to leave their donations there.  Posted below is a flier for the clothing distribution for January 27, 2011

Food Pantry/Clothing Distribution (VVCC) 11/23 This Month Only (REPOST)

POSTED AS A COMMUNITY SERVICE BY GADABOUT-BLOGALOT

Please Note:  Due to Thanksgiving falling on regular distribution date, distribution for food and clothing will be on Tuesday 11/23 at Valley View Christian Church.

Hello All!

Our dates of distribution have changed for November and December.

Once again, Roadrunner Food Bank is providing the food and we will distribute it on Tuesday, November 23rd from 5:00-7:00 pm to anyone needing help. This month, we will have enough food to feed 200 families.

New this month:

Because of the holidays, the pantry dates will be TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 23RD AND TUESDAY, DECEMBER 21ST.  We will have enough food to feed 200 families on both dates. We’ve had several people ask if we will have turkeys for our recipients, but turkeys are not normally provided for the holidays.  In light of that, we have decided to go to the community for help.  We are collecting turkeys of our December pantry date.  If you would like to donate to our families, please take your turkey by Valley View Church on December 23rd, no earlier than 3:30pm.
