Governor Bill Richardson claims 3000 full-time jobs created in the last quarter ending on March 31, 2010:
SANTA FE – Governor Bill Richardson today announced that more than 3,000 full-time jobs in New Mexico have been funded with federal stimulus dollars in the first quarter of 2010.
“The Recovery Act is putting thousands of New Mexicans to work throughout rural and urban areas of the state,” said Governor Bill Richardson. “Times are tough and stimulus funds have created good, local jobs in our schools, home building industry, law enforcement, road and clean water projects at time when we need them the most.”
The Governor’s press realease goes on to say that of the total 3009 jobs, 2271 were in the public sector. I’m not sure we should applaud and say, “jobs are jobs,” when it will be hard to fund these public jobs after the goose has become a gone goslin. The private sector jobs are only 24.5% of the total, or 738 jobs.
Anyway, like it or not, the jobs are predominately those which will eventually have to be picked up by the taxpayers of the State of New Mexico, that, or they’ll have to be lost through lack of funding. Here’s a link which will take you to the detailed information on the jobs:
