Shameful Political Pandering by Attorney General Gary King
Dear Friends of Protect ABQ Women & Children,
Thank you to those who spoke out in opposition to City Councilor Trudy Jones’ resolution to try to stop the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Ordinance from going to a vote of the people. Supporters of the ban on late-term abortions, or halfway through pregnancy, were out in full force at last night’s city council meeting speaking on the legality of the measure and that it’s up to the U.S. Supreme Court to decide its constitutionality — not the Albuquerque City Council.
A move by Council President Dan Lewis and Councilor Don Harris sent Councilor Jones’ resolution to the Finance and Government Procedures Committee which means it won’t be heard until a meeting on November 25. This allows the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Ordinance to proceed on to the citywide run-off election on November 19 and allows for a vote by the residents of Albuquerque.
Attorney General Gary King
But unfortunately, two-time failed gubernatorial candidate and attorney general, Gary King, has now made it his mission to try to discredit our efforts on behalf of abortion extremists. His political mantra disguised as an attorney general’s opinion is that the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Ordinance is “unenforceable.”
This is a blatant attempt to prop up his current floundering gubernatorial campaign and pander for votes from pro-abortion extremists.
His personal opinion only matters if he lives in Albuquerque, in which case he could likewise vote on November 19 just like anyone else in this election. His voice would then matter just as yours or mine.
King’s hypothetical opinion on enforceability is nothing more than political grandstanding.
Let your voice be heard and tell Attorney General Gary King that only the courts can rule on actual cases or controversies.
It is SHAMEFUL for our attorney general to politicize and degrade his office in this matter. USING HIS OFFICE TO BLATANTLY PANDER TO SPECIAL INTERESTS IS NOTHING NEW AND HAS NO EFFECT ON THE DEMOCRATIC AND LAWFUL PROCESS OF THE ELECTION OF THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE AND BY THE PEOPLE ON NOVEMBER 19.
Thank you for your continued support as we battle on to protect the lives of women and children and end the barbaric practice of killing unborn children at the start of the sixth months of pregnancy and beyond in our city.
You may contribute by volunteering for our cause, or donate here to help us win this election.
Protect ABQ Women & Children
In July, members of Protect ABQ Women & Children, along with other pro-life groups, turned in nearly 27,000 signatures, more than double the necessary needed to put the measure on a city-wide ballot, in half the allotted time. Protect ABQ Women & Children is a local advocacy campaign that is working to raise awareness of the dangers of the late-term abortion industry in Albuquerque and to garner support for the “Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Ordinance” which bans abortion after 20 weeks, or halfway through, pregnancy.
