Edgewood Chamber of Commerce

    Your Chamber,
Working for you…

Thanks for the feedback last week! We will be increasing the size of the type to help us read more easily…other than that, no other complaints – we are glad that you enjoy the new format.
Wednesday’s Luncheon was a good meeting.  We honored outgoing President Gary Birkman with his very own Gavel, and thanked him for his hard work in 2011!
Chris Hopper, President for 2012, and the new board and officers are excited about the new year and have plans to help make the business community more successful in 2012.
The winner of the Bill Gilmore Scholarship 50/50 was Dacia Wiest
who donated her winnings back to the Scholarship Fund.  Thanks, Dacia.
SASS donated a great basket full of goodies, and Bill Gilmore donated a beautiful horse art piece created by Mrs. Gilmore.  The Independent donated two one year subscriptions. Thank you to all who made our drawings a success!
And we saw at least two potential business deals connected at the meeting.
Don’t forget that this is a great place to network your business!
COW AWARDS NOMINATIONS
CLOSE JAN 20.
The COW Awards Committee has asked me to please remind you that there are folks in our community who give and give, and we would like to give them recognition!  Please take a minute and think about someone who should be honored at the Cow Awards Pot Luck (the best potluck in the area)  on February 3 at the Edgewood Middle School Cafeteria.
The speaker will be Syd Masters! It’s worth the great evening to see who has been nominated (especially YOUR candidate).
The Deadline has been extended to NEXT Friday the 20th…
If you would like some help filling out the form, just call the office at 850-2523  or drop by and we’ll help you fill it out.  We would be so happy to have ALL of those in the East Mountains who have helped others honored!
Please go to
www.edgewoodchambernm.com  and click on Events  to get the letter of explanation and the form to nominate them.
Please get the form to the Chamber office by 4pm Friday January 20.  Call Renee Willes at 505-506-4900 or Robin Prudencio at  505-281-5364 for more information.
    LEADERSHIP EDGEWOOD 2012

Today is the last day to register to join Leadership Edgewood 2012 class.

Call Brenda at 228-3456
 or Madeline at 850-2523.
Stop by the office and we’ll fill you in!

Create greater value by marketing with businesses that compliment your services.  We’ve all seen things like,
“Bring your movie stub and receive 20% off at Joe’s Pizza.”
Same idea.
Who can you partner with to create greater perceived value for your customers?  Alliances are a powerful way to make the most of every marketing dollar.

The Moriarty Rotary Club Presents
Cirque Montage
Cirque Montage is a collage of traditional and cutting-edge circus acts featuring former Cirque du Soleil artists. Montage is a show of daring and skill that defies the perception of what is possible. Montage creates a whimsical world of animated characters who each play a role in a cinematic tapestry. A driving drumbeat that mixes with Salsa-World Music flare, intertwines in an ever-changing fabric backdrop of colors, shapes, and textures created by light. Strength, flexibility and technique foster a deep appreciation for the human body – both its capabilities and its beauty. A magical family show for “children” of all ages!

Wednesday, January 12 at 11:30 is the next luncheon. We will meet at the Edgewood Community Center. Please RSVP to (286-2577) or send an email to let us know you are coming and if you plan to eat.

Keep in mind that this is our annual meeting. We will be formally introducing the 2011 Board of Directors and its Officers and also voting to approve one new Board member, Jeff Palmer.
Lunch prices have changed!
That’s right, we’ve lowered the price of lunch to make it easier for you to attend! Ticket prices are now $8.00 and FREE for first time guests and also FREE for those not wishing to eat but who would like to attend the meeting. So no excuses, come and join us!
Please DO NOT use the website to prepay for lunches at this time!!!

WELCOME ABOARD!

A heartfelt welcome to Howard Calkins, Mary Dammann, Chris Hopper, and Ray Seagers, as our newest Board Members!
As per ECOC by-laws, the Board has been able to fill four vacancies that occurred due to resignations in 2009 and 2010. In 2009 two of the seven Board members resigned prior to their terms ending and they were not filled in 2009 or the first part of 2010. In October of 2010 we had one more Board member resign and in November, one more. The 2010 Board decided to fill those four positions and voted in the people listed above. 2010 President Tony Scott’s term as President ended which opened up one more Board position which Jeff Palmer has been nominated for and will be voted on to be approved at the January luncheon.
At our December Board meeting officers were elected which consist of the following:
Chris Hopper – Vice President
Mary Dammann – Secretary
Jay Snell – Treasurer
Once again according to ECOC by-laws the Vice President (President Elect) becomes the new year’s President. 2010 President Elect, Gary Birkman, will serve as 2011 President.
Non-Officer positions are:
Howard Calkins – Member At Large
Ray Seagers – Member At Large
Jeff Palmer – Member At Large Nominee
We are excited about 2011 and are looking forward to meeting you at the upcoming luncheon!

Think about which three independently owned businesses you’d miss most if they were gone. Stop in and say hello. Pick up a little something that will make someone smile. Your contribution is what keeps those businesses around.
50
If just half the employed US population spent $50 each month in independently owned businesses, their purchases would generate more than $42.6 billion in revenue. Imagine the positive impact if 3/4 of the employed population did that.

WE are what it takes to make a positive shift in our OWN ECONOMY. Support local businesses. Click the 3/50 logo above to learn more.

2011 Schedule

LuncheonsWe need to get these scheduled! We need volunteers! This is your opportunity to plan to speak up and share what YOUR BUSINESS has to offer to your fellow Chamber Members and Community. Remember we meet second Wednesday of each month. (January, February, April and May are spoken for!)

We would love to get more silent and live auction items, so please contact us by Monday at the latest if you have something to contribute.

If you have “little business stuff” like pens, sticky notes, coupons, or other that you would like to include in goody bags. This is a GREAT way to let 160 other locals know about YOUR business! PLEASE contact us today if you have not already…we’re working on assembly today!

Please remember we are a 501(c)6 organization. That means there is not a tax deduction for donations. HOWEVER, you MAY take deduction for advertising since your name/business will be listed in the program, on scrolling marquees around the facility and on the Telegraph Chamber Page in November.

    BOARD POSITION NOMINATIONS

Two board positions will open on December 1. We will take nominations to fill these positions through the luncheon on November 10. The board will vote to fill these positions from the nominations received at the regular monthly board meeting on November 17. You may contact the office at 505-286-2577 or send an email with your nomination

    2011 Schedule

LuncheonsWe need to get these scheduled! We need volunteers! This is your opportunity to plan to speak up and share what YOUR BUSINESS has to offer to your fellow Chamber Members and Community. Remember we meet second Wednesday of each month. (January, February and April are spoken for!)

Please send an email to let us know the month you would like to share as well as your topic so we can set the calendar!

Mixers – We will also need sponsors for the mixers that take place third Thursday of each month! This is a time and place for us to mix and mingle and learn about each other’s business, as well as to just relax a bit!

Send an email with the month you would like to host along with the location.
