Drink It, Drive It Or Try To Forget It

The approximate shape of a molecule of ethanol...

I don’t imbibe, so I won’t drink it.  I drive, but I won’t use it in my vehicle.  It’s too expensive, so I can’t forget it.  I’m talking about ethanol again and it isn’t a friend of mine anymore than it was the last time I posted on the subject.

ReasonTV has a video about the stuff and its real cost to the United States and hungry people around the world, so I thought I would avail myself of their generosity in offering their great presentation to the few readers of my blog.

Remember, this is the same ethanol that was to help save the world and the folks living on it.  Also remember, that it was our friend Al Gore, the fellow who now says that warm is cold and cold is hot, who also said that Ethanol would be one of our saviors from dependence on foreign oil.  The Mr. Gore who recently admitted that his reason for saying so, was to impress the folks in the corn-growing part of our farm belt, that he would make sure the farmers and refiners would get their subsidies if they agreed to grow and refine ethanol.  Surprised?  Me neither, nor should we be so.

I trust you’ll watch the video just below and then you’ll follow any links you find toward the bottom of this article.  Thanks to ReasonTV and all the fine folks who work for and with them.

Finally A Gore We Can Believe In — Somewhat

Al Gore's Hearing on Global Warming

This information is new only because it comes from Mr. Gore as a sort of revelation to himself.  Well, not really; as the story now goes, Mr. Gore was a little more than a lot disingenuous with his support of corn ethanol.  I wonder if this is a convenient or An Inconvenient Truth for the gentleman.  Let’s allow Mr. Gore, through the Reuters reporter, Gerard Wynn to give his confession:

ATHENS, Nov 22 (Reuters) – Former U.S. vice-president Al Gore said support for corn-based ethanol in the United States was “not a good policy”, weeks before tax credits are up for renewal.

U.S. blending tax breaks for ethanol make it profitable for refiners to use the fuel even when it is more expensive than gasoline. The credits are up for renewal on Dec. 31.

Now, we next see where the wheels start to come off the wagon and the confession begins:

“It is not a good policy to have these massive subsidies for (U.S.) first generation ethanol,” said Gore, speaking at a green energy business conference in Athens sponsored by Marfin Popular Bank.

“First generation ethanol I think was a mistake. The energy conversion ratios are at best very small.

The above is from Mr. Gore’s recent statements as quoted by Mr. Wynn.  We, the collective we, can only pick our bottom jaws up off the floor as we marvel at the effrontery of Mr. Gore’s unabashed touting of the global warming agenda, as he used his power to seek political office.  Of course it was a mistake and all the skeptics in the world said so, but Mr. Gore and the rest of the Warmers were not interested.  They were hell-bent to extinguish the fires of hades, while insuring that the refiners and growers of corn got the subsidies and Mr. Gore got the votes in return for his support … or so it seems from Mr. Gore’s own words:

“It’s hard once such a programme is put in place to deal with the lobbies that keep it going.”

He explained his own support for the original programme on his presidential ambitions.

“One of the reasons I made that mistake is that I paid particular attention to the farmers in my home state of Tennessee, and I had a certain fondness for the farmers in the state of Iowa because I was about to run for president.”

Thanks to bad memory or  Mr. Gore’s very own epiphany of major proportions, we now know the truth after an unnecessary period of dog and pony shows.  In the story filed by Mr. Wynn, Mr. Gore reveals yet more information that logically follows what he has said thus far into the article.  We’ve included a link to the entire story, so the readers can sample the corn syrup.  Shuck this link and shell it.

Whatever may have happened with Climategate, “GoreGate” is very revealing, coming as it does at the closing demise of the current Congress.

Flaps of the cap to Reuters and Mr. Wynn for their story AND Mr. Gore for confessing.

Why is it that the segment of society with the most potential need turns out  the most abused by scam artists and crooks.

We speak of the health care needs in our country and the almost constant barrage of reports telling us of the latest Medicare, Medicaid and other government programs illegally manipulated and dipped into by dishonest health care workers; whether nurses, doctors, clerks or others charged with caring for the ill or just plain unhealthy because of malnutrition or other causes.

The latest scandal has hit the Indian Health Service (IHS) and according to a story appearing in the Associated Press MyWay by Matthew Daly, it is a sordid tale of waste and other abuse:

WASHINGTON (AP) – The federal Indian Health Service has hired convicted criminals, failed to stop employees from stealing narcotics and allowed workers to take paid leave for more than a year while being investigated for misconduct, a federal investigation has found.

The investigation disclosed years of mismanagement that have led to poor patient care, long-term vacancies and other problems at the Aberdeen Area of the Indian Health Service, which includes North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska.

Reports of dangerous prescription drugs and/or narcotics stolen  and then sold by employees are not uncommon.  In some cases employees convicted in drug cases have been rehired in the very same area in which the crimes were committed:

Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., the panel’s chairman, said Tuesday that the Aberdeen office “appears to me to be completely dysfunctional.”

Dorgan said he was stunned to learn that the region’s deputy director had been placed on paid leave for undisclosed reasons for more than a year. The official, Shelly R. Harris, has stayed home, at taxpayer expense, while allegations against her are investigated, said Charlene Red Thunder, director of the Aberdeen region.

An IHS spokesman said Harris is paid $125,109 per year. He declined to comment on the allegations against her or say when they may be resolved, citing privacy laws.

Dorgan called the lengthy leave unacceptable and said it was impossible to believe that a private-sector employer would allow such an action. “Not on your life!” he said.

The Aberdeen area IHS has many facilities which can serve as ready targets for any person or group ready to steal from the IHS:

Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., the panel’s chairman, said Tuesday that the Aberdeen office “appears to me to be completely dysfunctional.”

The Aberdeen office serves more than 100,000 Indians on reservations in North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Iowa. The region includes nine hospitals, eight health centers, two school health stations, and several smaller health stations and satellite clinics.

Vandals Accused Of Hitting Pro-Life Advocate Facilities

Partial view of the Paris 2009 pro-life march ...

According to LifeNews.com, Pro-Life advocates in Dubuque, Iowa and Albuquerque, NM suffered at the hands of vandals:

Dubuque, IA (LifeNews.com) — Pro-abortion vandals have hit pro-life advocates in two states — Iowa and New Mexico. In the former, a member of Dubuque County Right to Life was victimized by having his property spray-painted with pro-abortion graffiti; in the latter, a pro-life group’s truck and the home of its driver were pelted with eggs.

The damages were not serious, but there were some curious occurrences that might give one pause to wonder.  In the instance of the Iowa vandalism the reporter seemed to make the victim the local pro-abortion group:

Regarding the Iowa case, the local Dubuque newspaper has attempted to turn the obvious attack on a pro-life activist’s home into a pro-life conspiracy to insult Planned Parenthood.

At first, the Dubuque Telegraph Herald refused to publish the story about the vandalism. Then, the newspaper’s editor made it appear pro-life advocates made up the incident.

Blogger Jill Stanek reveals that e-mail communications and phone calls to the paper’s editor, Brian Cooper, show that his opinion was that the vandalism was conducted by a covert pro-lifer or someone without a view on abortion who was trying to make Planned Parenthood look bad.

In the Albuquerque case, there is some indication that the acts were discussed prior to the event’s execution:

Perhaps not coincidentally, on June 11, 2010, a 17-year old pro-abortion blogger named “Clay” complained about the truck, which bears graphic abortion images, and discussed possible responses.

“What should we do? Chain someone to their door? Egg their vehicles?” he wrote.

We are sure there will be more developments regarding the events in both cities.  Meanwhile for those wo didn’t catch it, we mentioned that Albuquerque might be on its way to becoming the Late Term Abortion Captiol (click link) with the arrival in Albuquerque of abortionist Curtis Boyd and his helpers. Here’s a link to the complete story (click.) There are other links to peruse at the post and the image above is provided by Mathew Moorhead and it depicts. the March For Life, January 2009 in Paris.
